Wednesay night will be a busy one in the NBA, as 13 matchups feature nearly 30 teams, including many of the best in the league. NBA odds can often be difficult to set, especially as evenly-matched teams face off against each other. This is the case with the 76ers playing in Orlando against the Magic, where the sportsbooks list the Magic as the narrow three-point favorites to win. Check out our Football odds website here and click on the odds pages to read all of them — do not miss out on that one special game tonight. In New Jersey, the visiting Grizzlies hold the three-and-a-half point favored position right now. And in the closest game of the night, the Indiana Pacers are only one-and-a-half point favorites to win in Cleveland over the Cavs. The exact same odds are given for the Atlanta Hawks (favorites) over the Suns playing in Phoenix tonight. The Louisiana Superdome will come to life on December 17th as the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl begins. The San Diego State Aztecs face the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns in a battle for the championship. The Aztecs come into play with an 8-4 record and a 4-3 record in their MWC. The Aztecs average 29.8 points per game on offense and 24.4 points per game on defense.
The Aztecs are led by senior QB Ryan Lindley (2,740 yards – 52.5 completion pct – 20 td’s / 8 int – 122.9 rating). The running game is in competent hands with phenom sophomore running back Ronnie Hillman (287 carries – 1,656 yards – 19 td’s). Hillman had a 99-yard touchdown run in a game against Wyoming on October 29th. Hillman reminds many of previous Aztecs star and latest NFL Hall Of Famer Marshall Faulk who also ran all over the field against opposing defenses in the early 1990′s.
The Ragin’ Cajuns defense will have their hands full in trying to stifle Ronnie Hillman on the ground. Both defenses will surely get a workout in this shootout of two great squads. The two-way threat of Gautier versus the ground game of Hillman will be on display. Both teams will look to put a lot of points on the board in this classic.
Tonight the NFL football gambling season commences. Let’s take this opportunity to take a brief look at both the AFC and NFC Divisions to see what possibilities may lay ahead in the 2011-2012 season. Let’s start with the AFC East exactly where the New England Patriots have had a stranglehold for virtually a decade. Last year the New York Jets crashed the scene and defeated the Patriots in the playoffs. You have to like the Patriots to find a way to win this division again.
The AFC South has been ruled by the the Indianapolis Colts, but this may be the year exactly where the Houston Texans finally make their move and take home a division championship. In the AFC West the Kansas City Chiefs won the division last year, but most think that if the San Diego Chargers stay healthy they will win it this year. In the AFC North the Pittsburgh Steelers won the division last year and went on to the Super Bowl losing to the Packers 31-25. If they stay healthy they should win the division again, although the Baltimore Ravens will give them a run for their money.

In the NFC East the Philadelphia Eagles won the division last year and should do so again. The Giants or Cowboys could make a run, but it is not feasible. The NFC West the Seattle Seahawks won the division with a dismal 7-9 record. Don’t assume that again. Look for the Los Angeles Rams to win it with a 9-7 record instead. In the NFC North the Chicago Bears won the division last year, but it was the Wild Card Green Bay Packers that made it all the way to the Super Bowl to win it all. although the Detroit Lions are making their move, look for the Packers to win this division again. In the NFC South the Atlanta Falcons won the division last year with the Saints taking the Wild Card. Look for more of the same this year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers making a feasible challenge. There will be plenty of good soccer betting this NFL season.
Although the Bulls improved their offense in Game Three against the Heat, Miami was just a little bit better in almost every category that mattered.
The Heat’s offense was on fire, despite low-scoring nights from the biggest two of the Big Three.
As a result, the Bulls went down in Miami, losing 96-85 to give the Heat the 2-1 series lead.
It took four tries, a couple of moves, and some waiting for some players to age, but LeBron James and crew finally overcame the Boston Celtics in a playoffs series.
With all three of the 2000s championship dynasties now out of the 2011 NBA Playoffs, it now becomes much more difficult to predict which team has the best chance of winning the title.
The fact that the Grizzlies and Thunder are still battling out west adds to the speculation.
Experts anticipated the Atlanta Hawks-Orlando Magic series would be a tough one and a toss-up, and the Hawks finally came out on top tonight to advance to the second round of the playoffs.
The Magic just didn’t have enough left in them in this Game Six, and they fell four games to two and were outscored tonight 84-81 by the Hawks.
Atlanta now faces the No. 1 seed Chicago bulls in the Eastern Conference semifinals, a series in which the Bulls are the favorites but will also be a hard-fought battle.
Most of the first games of the first round of the playoffs in the NBA Eastern Conference turned out as we all expected.
The only real upset was the Orlando Magic’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks by 10 points.
But while the other three first round games went to the favorites, there are still a lot of questions about each team in the East, based on their performances over the weekend.
After competing with the Los Angeles Lakers all season for the second position in the Western Conference, the Dallas Mavericks slipped a little bit down the stretch.
They enter the playoffs as the third seed, but tied regular season records with Los Angeles.
But since LA wins the tie-breaker, they get the second seed while the Mavericks get the third.
In one of the biggest NBA games of the week, the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Dallas Mavericks.
Los Angeles currently boasts the second best record in the NBA Western Conference, while the Mavericks are just behind in third place.
Both teams have an outside chance of catching the San Antonio Spurs for the first seed in the West, so tonight’s game is vitally important to the upcoming playoffs.
After being considered one of the last of 11 total teams to make it into the NCAA tournament from the Big East, Marquette is now one of the final two that have not been eliminated.
Tonight, they take on the Tar Heels in Newark, NJ for a 7:15 PM ET tip-off.
The game will be televised on CBS.
San Diego State is coming into tonight’s game against Uconn as the perennial survivors this year.
The team had to take Temple to double-overtime in order to make it to the Sweet Sixteen, but they made key plays late in the game to put them over the edge.
Strong finishes have been a trend with the Aztecs all season, but tonight will be one of their greatest challenges.
While most of the weekend belongs to the NCAA Tournament, there are a lot of exciting games in the NBA to watch, as well.
One of the most anticipated matchups is the Portland Trail Blazers’ trip to Los Angeles to play the Lakers on Sunday afternoon.
The game tips off at 9:30 PM EST at the Staples Center.
The Utah State Aggies were shocked to find out that they were awarded the No. 12 seed in the NCAA tournament, as they expected their regular season record would have earned them a higher placement.
But a lower seed means having to play a higher-ranked team, and in their first game of the tournament, they take on the Kansas State Wildcats.
On Sunday afternoon, the Ohio State Buckeyes will attempt to finish up the Big Ten Tournament on top as they play against Penn State.
Ohio State is coming off of a win against Michigan 68-61, while the Nittany Lions beat the Michigan State Spartans 61-48.
There is a lot of confidence for Buckeyes fans, who are looking forward to the 2011 championship.
David Gorr won the 2011 Aussie Millions Event.
He beat a field of 721 players and took home the $2 Million (AUD) first place prize.
It was a popular win among the fans since Gorr is from Australia.
On Wednesday, the Pac-10 Tournament gets started, and one of the first-round games to watch is between Stanford and Oregon State.
The game will be televised on the Fox Sports Network, and Stanford are currently slight favorites to win.
The total stands at 134.5, and this should prove to be a very competitive game.
After completely melting down in the third and fourth quarters of their home game against the Orlando Magic, the Miami Heat were hoping to pull out a win in San Antonio against the Spurs.
But the top team in the Western Conference and the NBA shut down the Heat and cruised to a seemingly easy 125-95 victory.
The Charlotte Bobcats are trying to keep their playoff hopes alive by beating the Denver Nuggets this Wednesday night in Denver.
As the sportsbook odds have been falling for the Nuggets since they traded away Carmelo Anthony to the New York Knicks, every team that plays against them seems that much stronger than they really are. The loss of Anthony has fundamentally altered the dynamics in Denver.
With a star like Tony Romo at quarterback, one might think that Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys would be concerned with looking to draft other needed positions, but Jones claims that he will keep all options open come draft day.
“I wouldn’t dismiss any player that’s going to be in that draft and wouldn’t express interest,” commented Jones on Friday. With the ninth pick in the draft, it is entirely possible that Newton will still be available, and even though they have Romo signed through 2013, aging back-up Jon Kitna, 38, is at the tail end of his career. The question is whether Newton would want to come in and be number two because he would be until he proved otherwise.
Both the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Orlando Magic are powerhouses in the NBA right now, with many observers predicting either of the two teams to show up in the NBA Finals in 2011. And on Friday night, both teams will meet in Florida. Kevin Durant of the Thunder and Dwight Howard of the Magic are the two players to watch tonight.
The Thunder have not won a game in Orlando in nearly seven years, but with Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson as possible players tonight, the momentum may finally shift away from the Magic. The Magic are currently listed as the -6.5 favorites to win tonight. Oklahoma City is on top of the Northwest Division with their 36-20 record, a distinction they have not held since 2005 when they were the Seattle SuperSonics.
In Saturday night’s UFC 127 showdown, BJ Penn will not just be fighting against Jon Fitch. He will also be fighting against his own possible irrelevancy if he loses the match. For Penn, winning UFC 127 is a must in order to remain important to the sport and an elite fighter after nearly a decade in the spotlight. But Fitch will not be an easy win by any means.
Up to now, Penn’s record, while not being perfect, is a perfectly respectable 16-7-1. This is even more remarkable considering that half of those matches were championship bouts. And most of the bouts were against fighters ranked in the top 10 of their respective divisions. In fact, if Penn had spent his entire career in the lightweight division, he may have been considered one of the legends of the sport.
Odds to win Super Bowl often have the favorite at an overlay as the nature of the hype surrounding the game has a direct effect on the NFL Super Bowl odds.
Of course the greatest example of hype and price, at least in the modern era of the Super Bowl, comes from Super Bowl XLII in February of 2008 when the New York Giants were 14 point dogs against the undefeated New England Patriots, who were trying to become the first team since the 1972 Miami Dolphins to clinch a perfect season.
The matchup was a great lesson in Super Bowl hype and how the media and the public can join together to make for unrealistic expectations. By the time the Patriots and Giants took the field on Super Sunday it was considered a sure thing that the Patriots would blow out the Giants for an easy payout and to become immortal as only the second undefeated team in the history of the Super Bowl.
The hype ignored the fact that the Giants had nearly beated the Patriots in a close game just a few weeks before in the regular season, and also ignored the fact that the Giants had one of the better defenses in Super Bowl betting. The Giants ended up winning the game 17-14 for an easy payout in one of the biggest upsets in the history of pro football.
The Giants win over the Patriots offers great lessons for handicappers getting ready to bet on the Super Bowl odds, but the biggest one of all is to keep a level head and not allow yourself to be caught up in media hype and the overlays and poor value that comes along with that hype.
The hucksters at ESPN are often wrong, as sharp handicappers quickly discover, and the odds to win Super Bowl board is not based on the true ability of the teams involved but instead is based on public perception, as the line is meant to attract equal amounts of action to both sides of the game. To gain an edge, look opposite of hype.
